BISHKEK, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a new 5-year country partnership strategy to promote sustainable economic growth and regional cooperation in Kyrgyzstan, the bank said Tuesday.

Endorsed by the bank's Board of Directors, the strategy for the period of 2018-2022 is expected to provide 641 million U.S. dollars in grants and sovereign loans to Kyrgyzstan, which joined the ADB in 1994, the bank's press service said.

The funds will be used to explore opportunities in various fields, such as energy, transport, education, public sector management, water supply, sanitation, agriculture and agribusiness, as well as telecommunications, it said.

As Kyrgyzstan's largest multilateral development partner, the ADB has so far provided about 1.7 billion U.S. dollars in loans and grants to Kyrgyzstan, according to the bank.
