NEW DELHI, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials from India's Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers held a Flag Meeting Thursday on the international border in Suchetgarh area of Jammu region, said Indian defence sources.

The meeting, held at the request of Pankistan Rangers, assumes significance even as it comes amid escalation of shelling and firing incidents at the border areas in recent weeks.

The five-member BSF delegation was led by BSF deluty inspector general (Jammu sector) P.S. Dhiman, while Pakistani side was headed by Sector Commander (Chenab Rangers) Brigadier Amjad Hussain. Pakistani delegation comprised of ten officers, including officials of the rank of Wing Commanders.

Last such meeting was held on Sept. 29, 2017.

Amid the incidents of firing and shelling, Indian defence sources claimed that BSF foiled a number of infiltration attempts from the Pakistani side.

During the meeting, BSF officials strongly objected to unprovoked firing and shelling targeting number of Indian villages, innocent civilians and their properties.

BSF also conveyed a strong protest with the message that such provocative acts were unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
